This piece was created with the intension of capturing the charm of a percussion cap muzzle-loading rifle. The front plate emulates the decorated and etched action of a rifle, complete with a serial number (the country road address of the homestead where I was raised and learned my marksmanship skills). The small copper “stars” that embellish the front plate are expended percussion caps. The oak dowel represents the ramrod with brass-capped ends. The leather strap that makes up the rear of the necklace characterizes the carrying strap by which the rifle would be transported.
Medium: brass, copper, oak dowel, leather
Size: 13"x14" (laying flat) or 36" long (as a necklace)
Exhibited in the 2015 Ball State Student Art Show.
