Ribbon Dress

This project was a representation of the struggle that Native Americans (particularly in the Miami valley area) face in today’s society. Speaking with a number of people in the area that recognize their native heritage and practice their belief system, I have gathered that it is often discouraging to not be able to access sacred traditional materials. Today’s government has placed many protective restrictions on resources that are essential to the Native American religious rituals. This dress and pattern are a representation of the struggle that these individuals face when practicing their beliefs with substituted materials.
